The designs became flashier and changed evermore quickly, with the Ducks often switching uniforms on a weekly basis. Yellow helmets came a few decades later, accompanied by white jerseys with dark green stripes. Every so often, the Ducks would switch it up a bit and wear dark green shirts with white stripes or some combination of green, white and yellow. The colors were the only distinguishing characteristic between schools.
In , wings were added to the helmets and jerseys for the first time. It set in motion a trend that continues to this day.
The Ducks also premiered their brightest uniform to date with the bright yellow ensemble worn during the season opener against Mississippi state. In , wearing a Donald Duck laden uniform, safety Kenny Wheaton ran 97 yards for a touchdown that cemented their win against the Huskies. In , on the 20th anniversary game, the Ducks brought the uniform back as a slight taunt to the Huskies as well as an homage to one the most important games in Duck history.
Wheaton returned for the anniversary game and was asked in a video from GoDucks. But meaning comes in different forms. Tony Brooks-James, a senior running back for the Ducks, can still remember his favorite jersey from when he was a teenager. For Brooks-James, the jersey was more than a thin layer of clothing.
It represented a possibility. The dream of being a professional athlete seemed distant until it could be seen, felt and worn. For Oregon, designing the uniforms is a team process.
There are 10 4 possible codes. Since this code looks just like a number really, isn't it a number , I can have the numbers to That is 10, numbers. Now for the cool part. Each of these 4 digit represents something different. Each digit represents something different. Each digit could be a helmet, a jersey, a pantaloon, a shoe. Here is the same thing with uniforms. If there were 10 of each of the clothing options, this would mean 10, uniforms which is 10 x 10 x 10 x What if you had 4 helmets, 3 jersey's, 3 pants, and 2 shoes?
This reminds me of the funny xkcd comic on password strength. One of the basic principles in passwords is to include lots of characters. You can make more permutations by including numbers and special characters and being case sensitive. The point of the xkcd comic is that you could increase the password length say 16 characters and only use letters. Of course, you would want to pick something with actual words to make it easier to remember.
You would still have a lot of passwords. Now we just need to figure out how many options there are for each piece of clothing.
Based on the 39 images of the past uniforms, I counted the number of unique helmets and jerseys and such. More Big 12 News ». More FS Big 12 News ». View all Big 12 Sites. More Pac 12 News ». More FS Pac 12 News ». View all PAC Sites. More FanSided News ».
